Not only did the spell put them to sleep until the castle rose above the clouds, but it also changed their wings! Look at Brooklyn's; he's missing a digit from his wing claw! And look what it did to Lexington's wings! 
Goliath: Hmm, they look different to me. Do they look different to you?
Katharine: Oh, no! Their wings were changed! And the beaked one is missing a talon! Magus: I think I found it! It was right here on the ground! Goliath: I shall avenge them!! See those things hanging off his legs? They're supposed to be his wings! They were ripped off his thighs! Poor Lexington!!
